What Anchors the Area
Elk Grove Regional Park and the Laguna Creek Trail system run through the older villages, and the Cosumnes River Preserve and Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge bound the city south and west. Old Town Elk Grove along Elk Grove Boulevard is the historic core; District56 is the newer civic and aquatics complex. Elk Grove Unified is one of the largest districts in the state. Apple's Elk Grove campus and Kaiser Permanente Elk Grove are the main local employers, with Highway 99 and the Kammerer Road corridor carrying commuters north.
